Job Summary

In addition to complying with all safety, environmental, quality, and core policies, and contributing to the company’s Zero Harm and Zero Defects commitment. Incumbents’ will learn essential duties and responsibilities include bringing raw material in from outside storage, and then cutting it to proper dimensions with the CNC cutting machine. The next step will be beveling the plate by blueprints or job travelers to prepare it for welding. Lastly, the plate will be put through an automated surface blasting machine, before heading to the next stage of production.

Responsibilities

  • Read and signs off on travelers to load programs for cutting.
  • Know weight of cut part and determine weight of raw material components in order to transition material in a safe manner.
  • Perform daily operational checks and perform cleanup at beginning and end of shifts
  • Make minor adjustments to programs.
  • Ability to meet production schedule.
  • Work from verbal instructions, drawings, blueprints, sketches, bills of material, cutting lists, etc.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates Multi-Torch, hand torch, and cut-a-line Oxygen-Acetylene flame cutting equipment.
  • Grinds and/or de-burs as required.
  • Obtains from stock, oxygen and acetylene cylinders as required.
  • Selects raw materials to be cut.
  • Uses drawings to determine how cuts should be made.
  • Positions materials by using an overhead crane.
  • Perform cleaning maintenance operations.
  • Reports abnormal conditions of equipment to department supervisor.
  • May be required to also operate the metal band saw to cut steel for parts.
  • Accurate completion of work order based on production schedule.
  • Change all parts in torch head.
  • Troubleshoot Plasma to Operators level.

  • Employee must sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Employee must be able to read, see, hear, and speak English.
  • Position requires frequent physical exertion. Incumbent will frequently be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, and larger amounts with assistance. Incumbent may need to operate crane and forklift.
  • The work location includes a warehouse and fabrication shop setting, which will expose the employee to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and potential extreme heat during the summer season.
  • Position requires limited exposure to outdoor elements (cold temperatures, snow, ice, etc.).
  • Employee may be required to use tools, including but not limited to: basic hand tools, saws, grinders, mills, lathes, bending tools, drill press, band saw, scale, stamping tool.
  • Employee must wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, ear protection and steel-toed boots, and any other PPE as required in the production area. PPE will be provided by the company with the exception of steel-toed footwear.
  • Employee will give full attention to all tasks.
  • Employee will follow all safety policies/practices/guidelines and will ensure all safety requirements are met or exceeded when performing all tasks.
  • Employee will work to identify hazards and unusual circumstances and will assist in the continual improvement of safety practices and procedures.
  • Employee will participate in safety training programs.
  • Employee will ask questions, share, and apply learning.
  • Employee will request help (if needed) to do all work safely.

Job Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience:
    • 1 year relevant experience (minimum)
    • Certificate from technical school or 6 additional months of relevant experience and/or training in computerized numerically controlled (CNC) machine operations.
    • 2 years’ demonstrated experience in computer-controlled machine operation (Preferred)
  • Other abilities:
    • Must have above average attendance as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule if required (scheduled or unscheduled overtime, weekends, and holidays) as required by workload and communication demands.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
    • Must be able to effectively read a tape measure with accuracy.
    • Ability to read and understand blueprints/technical drawings to the 16th.
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and management and on rare occasions customers.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
    • Ability to foster a positive team environment.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
