Job Summary

In addition to complying with all safety, environmental, quality, and core policies, and contributing to the company’s Zero Harm and Zero Defects commitment. Incumbents’ essential duties and responsibilities include hauling finished steel product as well as back hauls within a 200-mile radius of our manufacturing facility. Most of our focus is on specialized, oversize flatbed, boxed, Conestoga and 1-ton pick-up w/goose neck trailer freight. Home daily with a few exceptions for longer trips.

Responsibilities

  • Drive truck up to 11 hrs/day
  • Verifies the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers.
  • Secure loads utilizing chains, straps, tarps, etc.
  • Inspects and maintains vehicle supplies and equipment such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes to ensure that vehicle is in proper working condition.
  • Reports any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.
  • Assist with assembling/disassembling specialized trailers.
  • Communicate with customer for delivery.
  • Communicate with operations team for all load and equipment updates/issues.
  • Follow all FMCSA driver guidelines.
  • Presents bills and receipts for goods delivered or loaded.
  • Follow and promote company Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Must maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness & safe manner.

  • Employee must sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Employee must be able to read, see, hear, and speak English.
  • Position requires frequent physical exertion. Incumbent will frequently be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, and larger amounts with assistance. Incumbent may need to operate crane and forklift.
  • The work location includes a warehouse and fabrication shop setting, which will expose the employee to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and potential extreme heat during the summer season.
  • Position requires exposure to outdoor elements (cold temperatures, snow, ice, etc.).
  • Employee may be required to use tools, including but not limited to: basic hand tools, saws, grinders, mills, lathes, bending tools, drill press, band saw, scale, stamping tool.
  • Employee must wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, ear protection and steel-toed boots, and any other PPE as required in the production area. PPE will be provided by the company with the exception of steel-toed footwear.
  • Employee will give full attention to all tasks.
  • Employee will follow all safety policies/practices/guidelines and will ensure all safety requirements are met or exceeded when performing all tasks.
  • Employee will work to identify hazards and unusual circumstances and will assist in the continual improvement of safety practices and procedures.
  • Employee will participate in safety training programs.
  • Employee will ask questions, share, and apply learning.
  • Employee will request help (if needed) to do all work safely.

Job Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma OR General Education Degree (GED)
  • Experience:
    • 2 years commercial driving (required)
    • Class A CDL (required)
    • Clean Driving Record (required)
    • Must meet all DOT guidelines.
  • Other abilities:
    • Must have above average attendance as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule if required (scheduled or unscheduled overtime, weekends, and holidays) as required by workload and communication demands.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
    • Must be able to effectively read a tape measure with accuracy.
    • Ability to read and understand blueprints/technical drawings.
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and management and on rare occasions customers.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
    • Ability to foster a positive team environment.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
