Job Summary

In addition to complying with all safety, environmental, quality, and core policies, and contributing to the company’s Zero Harm and Zero Defects commitment. Incumbents will perform forming requirements to make products as indicated on blueprints, setting up and operating conventional, special purpose and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to form parts. Additional responsibilities include preventative maintenance on machines. Machine operators are also expected to do preliminary inspection on parts to identify non-conformities.
 

Responsibilities

  • Enters accurate data into job tracking and quality software programs.
  • Complete traceability requirements
  • Teamwork with mentors to resolve problems.
  • Accurate record keeping.
  • Accurately document all work and records.
  • Complete traceability requirements.
  • Recall programs and set up established processes.
  • Load cranes and other lifting devices.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials.
  • Select correct tooling for machining operations.
  • Completes simple editing process effectively.
  • Loads and prepares parts as required for the machining process.
  • Ability to measure/produce parts to the print.
  • Proficiently uses inspection tools, records the measurements on inspection sheets and understands the implications the dimensions have on part quality and function.
  • Establishes reference points on material or work piece for subsequent machining.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Plan, layout and perform safely and efficiently, machine and bench operations required to build, fit, or repair parts for equipment, die assemblies, fixture, and gages to exacting accuracy with daily supervision.
  • Maintain machine tools and equipment used.

  • Employee must sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Employee must be able to read, see, hear, and speak English.
  • Position requires frequent physical exertion. Incumbent will frequently be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, and larger amounts with assistance. Incumbent may need to operate crane and forklift.
  • The work location includes a warehouse and fabrication shop setting, which will expose the employee to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and potential extreme heat during the summer season.
  • Position requires limited exposure to outdoor elements (cold temperatures, snow, ice, etc.).
  • Employee may be required to use tools, including but not limited to: basic hand tools, saws, grinders, mills, lathes, bending tools, drill press, band saw, scale, stamping tool.
  • Employee must wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, ear protection and steel-toed boots, and any other PPE as required in the production area. PPE will be provided by the company with the exception of steel-toed footwear.
  • Employee will give full attention to all tasks.
  • Employee will follow all safety policies/practices/guidelines and will ensure all safety requirements are met or exceeded when performing all tasks.
  • Employee will work to identify hazards and unusual circumstances and will assist in the continual improvement of safety practices and procedures.

  • Employee will request help (if needed) to do all work safely.

Job Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Experience: Prior experience helpful.  Willing to train the right candidate.
  • Other abilities:
    • Must have above average attendance as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule if required (scheduled or unscheduled overtime, weekends, and holidays) as required by workload and communication demands.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
    • Must be able to effectively read a tape measure with accuracy.
    • Ability to read and understand blueprints/technical drawings to the 16th.
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and management and on rare occasions customers.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
    • Ability to foster a positive team environment.
    • Ability to pay attention to detail.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

    • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance bend radius and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.

    • Plan, layout, and perform safely and efficiently, forming and bench operations required to build, fit, or repair parts for equipment, die assemblies, fixture, and gages to exacting accuracy.
    • Proficiently uses inspection tools, records the measurements on inspection sheets and understands the implications the dimensions have on part quality and function.
